8月1日公布的大陸7月份官方製造業採購經理人指數（PMI）環比微漲，達到50.3%，而當天發布的匯豐製造業PMI終值則下跌至47.7，創11個月低位。根據人民日報報導，同是製造業指數，兩個統計對經濟的指向出現背離。多數觀點認為，資料差異可能源於統計不同，儘管大陸經濟增長仍面臨挑戰，但總體發展將是緩中趨穩。
英國《金融時報》1日指出，多數分析人士原本預計7月份官方指數會跌至50以下，因為大陸經濟整體正在持續放緩。但官方公布的資料卻增長到50.3，意味著製造業狀況略微改善。匯豐銀行則警告『大陸製造商面臨的商業環境顯製造惡化』。報導認為，兩項調查結果出現差距，一個可能的原因是匯豐銀行的調查集中於規模相對較小的民營製造商，而官方PMI則主要反映了規模較大的國企的情況。
路透社1日的報導指出，官方PMI回升主要是大陸近期出台的一系列『穩增長』舉措成功穩住市場預期。譬如取消和下放行政審批權，針對小微企業減稅等。在政策微調支援下，大陸宏觀經濟未來緩中趨穩，硬著陸風險降低。
大陸官方PMI帶動亞洲股市上漲，香港恆生指數和上證綜指分別上漲0.9%和1.8%，日本日經指數升至1月高點，南韓股指升至7周高點。法新社說，過去幾個月市場擔心大陸這個亞洲經濟巨人和全球增長的驅動力減速，官方PMI回升讓人們鬆了口氣。不過《華爾街日報》援引墨爾本一名分析師的話說，匯豐PMI是非常重要的資料，信貸緊張影響最大的往往是中小企業。大陸央行顯然看到了中小企業面臨的困難，正在採取措施注入流動性。
美國銀行美林證券大中華區首席經濟學家陸挺認為，在官方和匯豐PMI資料背離時，人們更應看重官方PMI，因為匯豐PMI中出口小企業的比重過大，它們受到了人民幣升值、工資上漲和外部需求減弱的影響，何況出口目前只占大陸GDP的10%。
